We have more than a decade experience in Mold Surface Coating. It is a semi-permanent mould release coating solution that allows multiple releases of components made of Rubber, PU and plastics. Industrial Mold Coating is easier to apply anywhere without any special training or effort by the user. Applications include PCTR Matrices, Tube Moulds, Flap Moulds Foam Rubber Moulds, Mat Moulds and numerous other Aluminium and Steel Moulds manufacturing rubber items and PU items like Flexible Foam items including seat cushion moulds for two wheelers and cars, etc.

MOLD KOTE is a translucent solvent based mould release coating solution for application on moulds made of steel, aluminium and other conventional mould making materials like epoxy for the moulding of products made of PU, rubber, EVA and plastics like polythene, polypropylene and PVC. When applied to a mould it exhibits outstanding release or anti stick properties and has a very low friction coefficient. Steel Mould Coating is clean, non oily, non-staining and chemically inert.

MOLD KOTE forms a thin coating on the surface of the mould, is easy to apply and has several advantages over other conventional mould release systems like silicone spray and other release coatings like PTFE (Teflon coatings). PTFE coatings are expensive and furthermore application and repair of the damaged PTFE coatings is difficult and cannot be performed at site.

  • Additional operational expense in a production process

  • Effective ventilation of the workplace and breathing equipment for workers required for health reasons, involves technical and economic input

  • Mold release agents need a drying time after application to the surface in order to evaporate the solvent before raw materials are introduced into the mould

  • Residues of the release agent is left on the moulded part and to the surface of the mould necessitating a cleaning process of the moulded part

  • Build-up on mould interferes with the accuracy of the contours and makes it necessary to perform time and cost consuming frequent cleaning
Advantages of Mold Kote
  • It requires a small amount of the coating

  • One application allows for multiple releases thereby reducing time and labour

  • The application process is time-saving and cost effective

  • The coating is thin (< 7 microns) and contour accurate

  • Coating of all materials conventionally used for making moulds is possible

  • Special workplace ventilation and other occupational health measures not required

  • Time between cleaning cycles greatly reduced

  • Coating is chemically inert and has no effect on process or moulded part

  • Subsequent cleaning of moulded part not required

  • Repair or touching up of damaged portions on site possible
Applications
  • Applications for MOLD KOTE include moulds made of Aluminium and Steel used for moulding components made of rubber, PU, EVA and other plastics.

  • Moulds for rubber parts include PCTR Matrices, Tube moulds, Flap moulds, Mat moulds, Foam rubber moulds, Pillow moulds, and many others.

  • Moulds for PU include seat moulds for two and four wheeler seats, chair cushion moulds, etc.

  • MOLD KOTE can be applied in-house by the user himself by using a low pressure spray gun and any heating arrangement to heat the mould after coating to 130C.
Application Instructions
  • Mould to be coated is thoroughly cleaned so that it is free from all traces of oil, residue, dirt or greasy matter. Cleaned surface is preferably further treated by grit blasting using 80 mesh Alumina or glass beads or roughened slightly with abrasive pad. Wipe clean with cloth or clean with air blast ensures that the mould is clean and dry before coating.

  • Prepared mould is preferably preheated to 35-40 C.

  • A very thin Primer coating applied by spray will improve the adhesion of the topcoat but is not absolutely necessary. Primer is allowed to evaporate and dry before MOLD KOTE is applied.

  • MOLD KOTE is applied to the surface of the mould which comes in contact with the moulded product by methods such as spraying or brush. Spray application is preferred to get an even coating. Use a low pressure spray gun which gives fine mist for spraying,

  • Apply around three, uniform thin coats and allow 5-10 minutes air drying between each coat.

  • Mould is then heated to 90-120C for about 20 to 30 minutes to cure and harden the coating.

  • If lower temperature of curing is used allow more time for the coating to harden into a thin film. Heating can be done by hot air oven or any means that will heat the mould.

  • In many cases it is enough to cure the coating by letting it go through one empty production cycle. Allow mould to cool to room temperature.

  • The mould is now ready for use and the coated surface shows good non-stick properties.

  • To maintain the desired release, reapply a light coating and cure as before. Avoid over coating to prevent buildup and dripping. A thin coat will be sufficient to give good non-stick properties.
